SHINE IN YOUR EYES

About Shine in Your Eyes

“Shine in Your Eyes” is a really folky song I wrote during my time in Ireland in 2016. My boyfriend and I had to endure our first three months in a long-distance relationship and I got really inspired by the wonderful folk bands in Ireland. Those two things resulted in this song. A little tune about missing the person you love - about love and being there for each other. I really enjoy listening back to this snapshot from this experience with my first love, the nativity and slight rebellion of the conventional feels so light and wonderful. A little tongue and cheek with “I’ll be there to guide you, but probably we’d just get more lost”. No high expectations or promises, just the joy of sharing life with each other. This song is me learning how to love, with an enthusiastic heart and an overthinking head.

Musically this is one of my favourites to play with the nice “he hey” sing-along part and it’s folky groove. Production wise it’s special too, it’s the first song where we completely outsourced the production from our usual team (except for the vocals and final mix/master). It was completely arranged and recorded by SunDown studios in the States. This arose as an opportunity through a course about Sync we were doing at the time. I really like the more American vibe it got, and most importantly: there’s banjo on it! I love banjo and really wanted to have one on one of my songs for quite some time haha.

“Shine in Your Eyes” is one of my earliest love songs that grew with me and I’ll always treasure it as a memory captured of a naive 15 year old heart trying to figure itself out.

Lyrics

If you ever feel heavy
Won't you let me carry you?
I will guide you through the dark
Oh through the dark
If you ever feel alone
I'll be right beside you
We could light a fire from our spark

And I know the world is turning 'round
In my book you might be a page
Still I know that you don't care about
Stupid rings through the age
And now autumn leaves dance around
They remind me of you
Yet they'll never get that dance like you do

And I miss the way you light stormy skies
Stormy skies stormy skies
Shine baby green and white in your eyes
In your eyes in your eyes

If you ever feel like falling
I'll be there to catch you
Standing on cloud seven i'll pick you up
If you ever get lost
I'll be there to guide you
But probably we'd just get more lost

And I know the nights get colder now
As the winter rolls in
Every day we grow older but the child plays within
And i'd like to dance through moonlight
With you by my side
I can't dance but I'll be alright if you are my guide

And I miss the way you light stormy skies
Stormy skies stormy skies
Shine baby green and white in your eyes
In your eyes in your eyes

he hey he hey he hey he hey he hey he hey he hey he hey

And I miss the way you light stormy skies
Stormy skies stormy skies
Shine baby green and white in your eyes
In your eyes in your eyes
