Someone Else - Lyrics
I’ve been feeling stuck a little while
The years start creeping on for miles
Dare to leave the safety of my home
Chase the fickle light of the unknown
Another day or two might change my need to roam.
This blanket feels so warm tonight
The fire is chasing the cold outside
But there’s a world out there to explore
There is this thing inside that cannot ignore
Another day or two might quench my thirst for more.
Oh if I only could
I’d stand right where you stood
Oh all the things I’d see
If I were someone else but me
There’s a little place across the sea
I’m sure the grass is twice as green
I wonder if they’d take me in
Never mind, not sure that I could make the swim
What’s so bad about the way that things have been
Oh if I only could
I’d stand right where you stood
Oh all the things I’d see
If I were someone else but me
Maybe one day I’ll see the colors
Maybe one day I’ll see the hues
Maybe one day I’ll lose my patience
Maybe one day I’ll break through
Oh if I only could
I’d stand right where you stood
Oh all the things I’d see
If I were someone else but me
If I were someone else but me
Could I be someone else?
About Someone Else
Nashville has a magnetic pull for songwriters. Many legendary collaborations and songs have originated there, where almost everyone you meet on the street could sing or play you a good song if you asked them. Naturally, it was on my list of places to go during my first ever USA visit last year. So when my friend Joe Pope suggested doing a road trip together from Atlanta to Nashville I was immediately on board. It was there, in a backyard facing a clearing the dear visited every morning and evening, that this song was born.
"Someone Else" contemplates all that could be if we chose to walk a different path. Looking inward at our fears and biases and becoming aware of all the times they stopped us from living life fully and deeply can be a painful thing to do. But between the lines of this song there's a comfort - "maybe one day I'll see the colours". It's not too late to become the person you want to be.

"Getting to write in person with Joe after a long online friendship and having collaborated remotely on his song Barricade was such a gift. I remember sitting by the fireplace in that backyard in Nashville songwriting with one of my favourite people and feeling so grateful. And I love this song and its journey, to give a space to doubts in this one has helped me embrace the path I'm on more fully. I'm happy that I get to say that I wouldn't want to be anyone else but me."

“Writing ‘Someone Else’ with Luna was one of those rare experiences where the music seemed to find us as much as we found it. It was such a magical experience getting to know Luna in person—for her to travel with my family and explore Nashville was so much fun, and the song we created there felt like a natural extension of what can happen when you say yes to stepping beyond your self-imposed limits. I’m so proud of this song and what we created together.”
